WE-ACT Cooperation Week

The WE-ACT Cooperation Week is a week-long technical collaboration and capacity-building event focused on climate-resilient water governance and decision-support methods for transboundary river basins. The programme features practical workshops, hands-on training, and expert sessions on hydrological monitoring, climate-impact modelling, water allocation analysis, and decision-support tools. The activities bring together scientific modelling, real-time monitoring approaches, and participatory methods to strengthen evidence-based water management.

The event is organised by WE-ACT partners, including the University of Twente, Portolan Association, Technical University of Munich (TUM), FutureWater, HAEDES, the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) Central Asia, and the Central Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences (CAIAG), in collaboration with national ministries, basin administrations, NGOs, and local stakeholders from Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.

In response to accelerating glacier retreat and increasing seasonal variability in river flows driven by climate change, Central Asia’s water systems face growing uncertainty and management challenges. The Cooperation Week addresses these challenges by harmonising technical approaches, strengthening local capacities, and aligning institutional practices for resilient water governance in the Syr Darya basin, supporting transparent, data-driven, and cooperative cross-border decision-making.
